COP 26 ⎮From “blah blah blah” to concrete measures and actions.

After the Paris Agreements, COP26 is the time and platform we need to put our speeches and pledges into action. To create concrete and lasting solutions to the climate crisis.

November 1, 2021

During the “world changing” Paris Climate Agreement from the COP21 in 2015, EVERY COUNTRY agreed to work together to limit global warming to below 1.5 above pre-industrial levels. We all pledged to forge a global response to the threat of climate change on nature and humans.

6 years (and a global pandemic) later…

Although the intentions were commendable, we are very far from reaching the goals set in 2015, and concrete actions have been replaced by a lot of “blah blah blah”. Concrete measures seem to be drowned in political speeches, and too often fail to meet the urgency of our planetary crisis. Our window of opportunity to implement global sustainable change is closing soon and we must forge a new relationship between people and the earth NOW, before it is too late.

As for the future, your task is not to foresee it,
but to enable it"

- Antoine de Saint Exupéry

What is COP 26?

The UN Climate change conference COP26 is the platform where leaders, negotiators, government representatives, and citizens from all over the world will collaborate to review what has happened in the last 5 years and how to deliver on 4 main goals :

1.  Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach

2.  Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats.

3. Mobilise finance

4. Work together to deliver

Why is the COP26 important?

COP26 has been referred to as the most important climate conference to date. In what sense is COP26 different from all previous climate meetings and why is now a crucial time to address the climate issue?

Putting words into action

The COP26 aims to clearly assess what has and has not been happening since the Paris Agreement in 2015. The COP26 is the time to put words into action and decide on clear paths and tangible solutions to lower our carbon footprint together in line with the 4 main goals. The conference aims to foster and create innovative and trailblazing solutions and it does so by setting the example.

Through their own actions, the COP26 conference paves the way for sustainable event management and is creating a legacy by namely:

- Promoting the use of responsible sources and responsible use of resources throughout the supply chain,

- Providing an accessible and inclusive setting for all,

- And our personal favourite; Reducing and avoiding emissions by accounting carbon emissions.

Shifting mindsets and inspiration

For the first time ever, the event itself will be climate-neutral.  We all have our role to play and a responsibility to reach those goals. And the COP26 event is doing its part.

COP26 is leading by example by being determined to be a carbon neutral event. They aspire to and act to be transparent and accountable. To use their own words they share inspiration by their own action and those of others to be #OneStepGreener .

What we, at Klimato, hope to get out of it?

With climate change and a secure future for humanity and the planet at the core of everything we do, it is a no-brainer for us at Klimato to closely follow the discussions  and outcomes of COP26. If we could dream big, we would want a world without climate threats, so how do we hope for COP26 to contribute to that dream coming true?

No more blah, blah, blah”

We hope for more concrete actions because we had a lot of “blah, blah, blah” with no actions and all talk, keeping necessary change from being implemented. We believe that solutions and actions for the climate crisis should be accessible to everyone and tackled by everyone.

Concrete and lasting solutions

Being informed about our impact and our choices is crucial for a sustainable development which is transparent, concrete and long lasting. It is time to stop “blah, blah blah” and enable the future of the planet.  We are in this together.
